Chewacla State Park
Hiking Chewacla State Park: What You Need to Know: In mid July 2026, Jesse and I took a day trip down to Auburn, Alabama (War Eagle!). In Auburn is Chewacla State Park. This Alabama state park is known for its fishing, hiking, and mountain biking.

A Day Trip through the North Georgia Mountains
Going to the North Georgia Mountains in late July is one of my favorite summertime activities. I don’t know what it is about late July. Maybe it is the dark green leaves, the forest air, or the mountains feeling so alive this time of year. The hard part is the heat. It is difficult to completely escape the Georgia heat anywhere in the state.

Calfkiller Brewing Company
Calfkiller Brewing is located close to the Calfkiller River, which flows through Sparta. It is not a river front brewery, but it doesn’t matter – there is tons to see here. Once you park, you can really take in the sights of Calfkiller.

Timmerman Trail
The trail is completely paved and winds through the woods and along Congaree Creek. When we started off, we went slightly downhill and under a bridge onto a boardwalk. We spent a long time here looking for birds and alligators.

Bierkeller Brewing Company
While exploring the Columbia area, we happened to stumble upon a couple of local breweries, but one in particular completely stole the show: Bierkeller Brewing Company. This brewery is a total hidden gem – and I mean that quite literally.

Chattahoochee River NRA
What really gets you is how this place is hiding in plain sight. The CRNRA sits right in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia, winding its way through the metro area across a series of protected park units along both banks of the Chattahoochee River. Most people drive past it every day without a second thought.
